Practical considerations in onshoring or near-shoring manufacturing: relocation of machinery and tooling

The US-China trade friction, strategic technology controls, political tensions, and the ongoing global pandemic have each significantly increased the public dialog around the economic “decoupling” of the US and China relationship.  Increasing pressure is being placed on the supply chain to lower global risks, be they political, health, or otherwise.  Whilst these concerns seem quite recent and sound quite urgent, the discussions around reducing the dependence on Chinese manufacturing has been ongoing for more than a decade.
